EchoPlant Rock School — equipping young musicians with all the skills, knowledge and experience they need to become successful gigging rock musicians in a safe and fun environment.
__________________________________________ |
EchoPlant Rock School was created to give young musicians a taste of what it?s like to be part of a real rock band. Participants will learn skills and techniques they can use to create their own successful bands. Another highlight, and benefit of practicing in a real professional recording studio as opposed to another rock school (like Long and McQuade), is making a real recording with an experienced producer/audio engineer. Not only is recording an exciting experience, but it leaves all participants with a record of their accomplishment.
Topics covered in Rock School Sessions include:
- Song form and arranging
- Recording - Live and Multi-tracked
- Rehearsal techniques
- How to do a Soundcheck
- Band dynamics ? secrets to keeping it together
- Performance considerations
- Marketing your band
EchoPlant Rock School meets at EchoPlant Sound Recording Studio in south Coquitlam every other week for 2 hours. The cost is $30 per session and there is a minimum commitment of 4 sessions at a time ($120). All sessions are led and conducted by multi-instrumentalist, audio engineer, and music producer Ryan Worsley who has been playing in metal, rock, and pop bands for the last 20 years.
We are looking for singers, drummers, bass, guitar, and keyboardists aged 12-17. Participants should have a minimum of one year experience playing their instruments. Keyboardists and guitarists must have a basic understanding of chords and scales. For those interested in joining the Rock School, who are early in their musical training should enquire about private lessons.

Versatility
When I was growing up taking guitar lessons, some of my teachers were
nearly old enough to be my grandpa. There were great teachers, but
in a lot of cases they were rigid in their ways and very narrow-minded.
They
were only open to teaching the music they liked. I believe that every
student has a right to learn the kind of music they want to listen
to. I listen to all different styles of music and I am willing to
teach you exactly what you want to learn.
Some students want to learn classical guitar and study theory and
technique and that’s great, I love to teach that. Others may
just want to learn a to strum 3 chords around a campfire, and that’s
fine too. For those
unsure of what it is they want to focus on, I will be happy to guide
and direct your studies, remaining flexible in the format. |

Efficiency
Most of the music studios that I have been in are tiny stuffy rooms
with two chairs and a music stand. I have a large teaching studio
equipped with a computer, internet, printer guitars amps effect pedals;
pretty much
any thing you’d ever need to become a great guitar player. When
a student wants to learn a song, I simply download the song, find
the music and we’re ready to go. I also have a recording studio
in the room as well
which I use to record student’s progress, let students play
to drums to work on rhythm or show them how recording music works.
I have also recorded demo music for student’s bands.
